About ASTA / State Chapters

In addition to membership with the national organization, joining ASTA provides membership in a local state chapter. State chapters are an effective conduit for handling localized issues. They differ due to their unique member profiles and can focus on the issues most important to their specific makeup of members. The dynamic between the national organization and state chapters helps ensure that ASTA members' needs are met at all levels.

State Chapter Awards

State Chapter Awards

Presented annually at the National Conference

Each of these awards are presented to state chapters that are actively involved in promoting their state. If you would like your state chapter to be considered for an award, complete this application and submit by the deadline listed on the ASTA website, www.astastrings.org.

All active state chapters and ASTA members are eligible to apply for these prestigious awards.

Application/Nomination Awards

Applications/Nominations DUE in early November, Notifications sent in December

Outstanding & Most Improved State Chapter Awards

These awards honor state chapters that are actively involved in promoting strings in their state. Applicants will be asked to list three (3) activities or initiatives your chapter has sponsored during the past year and the impact these events have had on your state. These may include (but are not limited to): recruitment of new members, creation of new board positions for expanding initiatives, new events/activities, new or updated communications, significant grants distributed, and collaboration with ASTA Student Chapters or other organizations.

State Chapter Leadership Award

Nominate a current (2024-2026) or previous (2022-2024) state chapter board member who has demonstrated exemplary service for your state. Nominations will need to include the ASTA state chapter leadership position held with the date ranges along with a short recommendation outlining the nominees demonstrated exemplary service.

Outstanding State Chapter Communications Award

This award recognizes the communication initiatives of our State Chapters! Communications include: newsletters, websites, social media, and other creative and interactive means of communicating effectively with your state ASTA membership and beyond! Applicants will be asked to provide at least three (3) examples of the various types of communications used along with the metric data.

Additional Awards

Membership Recruitment Award Determined by the net gain of members for the previous calendar year. (No application required.)

All winners receive a commemorative plaque as well as recognition on ASTA platforms.

Please Note

  • State Chapters and Individuals are not eligible for the same award in two consecutive years (e.g., the chapter that was awarded Most Improved State Chapter in 2023 is ineligible for the Most Improved State Chapter in 2024, but could be awarded Outstanding State Chapter in 2024 or any other award)
  • This rule does not apply to the Membership Recruitment Award, since it is determined by net gain of members instead of an application.
