Founded in 1946, the American String Teachers Association exists to support string and orchestra teachers and players. Our members range from budding student teachers to artist-status performers. We provide teaching resources, professional education, local and national events, a career center, insurance programs, and access to a vibrant and collaborative strings community.

The award-winning American String Teacher (AST) journal is published quarterly. It is available to ASTA members as a benefit of membership—the annual subscription price is included in membership dues.

The ASTACAP seeks to establish definite goals and awards for students of all levels through non-competitive examinations. A certificate of achievement is awarded for each level successfully completed.
