Cindy Flores
Cindy Flores was raised in Salem Keizer and began playing the violin at age nine. She continued to play the violin through her school orchestras, youth symphonies, and in honor groups. Cindy Flores is a recent graduate of Portland State University, where she received her bachelors of music in music education. At Portland State she was in many various ensembles, such as PSU Orchestra as principal second violin, PSU Ballet pit production, pit opera, and being a part of PSU Mariachi ensemble, first established for students in 2022. Throughout Portland State, Cindy has achieved many accomplishments. She won a local conducting competition and had the honor of conducting Portland Rose City Pride Band in conjunction with PSU University Band in 2023. She also won a local composition competition, and had her piece ‘Summer Scaries’ premiered by Ron Russell 5th grade orchestra, 2024.
While in school, Cindy became an established educator in various studios. She worked as a private violin instructor at Happy Valley Arts Academy and at Youth Music Project. At YMP, she directed their first ever Mariachi Summer Camp for kids ages eight to twelve, summer of 2023. Currently she works only at Youth Music Program teaching many group classes, private lessons, and as a summer band instructor. Cindy Flores is continuing her education by attending Western Oregon University M.A.T Accelerated Program, masters in education.
