Culturally Responsive Teaching Within Rural, Suburban, and Urban Orchestra Programs

As we advocate for more culturally diverse orchestra programs throughout the United States, orchestra teachers must develop greater awareness and a broader repertoire of responses for culturally specific communities that influence their students’ learning. This article highlights the perspectives of orchestra teachers and students from three specific programs in rural, suburban, and urban settings and relates these perspectives to the need for and results of culturally responsive teaching.
