2022 Hybrid ASTA National Conference

Call for Reading Session Music

Publishers: Get your music in front of attendees at the conference in Atlanta

ASTA members are always looking for new music to add to their repertoire. Don't miss this chance to get your publications in front of conference attendees in Atlanta. We are collecting submissions for seven reading sessions this year, including sessions focused exclusively on music of underrepresented composers and music of female composers for both K-12 orchestra and applied studio sessions.

Deadline January 17, 2022

Criteria for Music Submissions

The criteria for repertoire in each reading session is included below. To avoid an overlap in multiple reading sessions, a composition may only be submitted for a single reading session. How to Submit Music

  • To be eligible to submit music for conference reading sessions, you must be a current ASTA String Industry Council member. To learn more on how to become a member or if you have questions, please contact Lynn Tuttle.

  • String publishers may send up to 14 selections with no more than 2 pieces of music per category. If you publish multiple brands, it is okay to submit up to 14 selections from each brand. Please provide each piece in a Set B or Set C instrumentation. Specifically, we are looking for the instrumentation to be 8 violin 1st, 8 violin 2nd, 5 viola, 5 cello, and 3 bass parts plus score.

  • For eclectic styles selections, please include the following, as applicable: 6 violin 1st, 6 violin 2nd, 5 viola, 5 cello, 1 piano/guitar, 3 bass, 1 drum, and score. If the piece has an improvisation section, or "room for improvisation," it MUST have chord symbols in the improvisation section, even if it has a "suggested" or written-out solo. You may submit pieces from beginner (grade 1) through advanced high school groups.

  • Please include the following information for each piece of music submitted: title; composer/arranger; publisher's suggested grade level; price; duration of piece; and available .mp3 files for each piece. Although we will be using sheet music for the in-person Atlanta reading sessions, we also will have a recorded “reading session” available as part of the virtual portion of the conference, using .mp3 files of the pieces. If you would like your piece included in the virtual reading session, we will need the .mp3 file for the piece. Please use the email link below to share the .mp3 files.
