Body Mapping, The Full Course: Bringing Awareness to String Performers, Teachers, and Students about the Design of the Body in Movement for Healthy, Easeful Playing Human movement is controlled by body maps in the brain, which may or may not be compatible with how the body optimally moves. If we become aware of our body maps, we can change our movement and, therefore, our playing. Jennifer and Judy, licensed Body Mapping teachers (Andover Educators), will lead participants through the full six-module Body Mapping Course in order to help them play more easily and expressively, while avoiding discomfort and injury.

Luckily, our classical technique can serve as a powerful platform for mastering new skills for new styles. Chopping, ghosting, instant backup voicings, rhythm parts, mastering non-classical vibrato flavors and-gasp-improvising. All these mysteries and more will be revealed! We'll cover a few basic tunes and forms which serve as templates for a new vernacular approach. Bring your instrument and curiosity.

Spreading the Joy of String Playing: Best Practices for the NSPC String Projects Description: The National String Project Consortium (NSPC) is a coalition of String Project sites that cultivate new generations of highly qualified stringed instrument music educators while also providing stringed instrument instruction to children and adults across the United States. This session will focus on best practices for current student teachers, master teachers, and directors of String Projects. For directors and master teachers, this interactive session will provide directors and master teachers ideas for mentoring student teachers, collecting data for future research, developing curriculum for beginning classes, and establishing multi-level ensembles. For student teachers, this interactive session will focus on teaching private lessons, creating meaningful lesson plans, time management in group classes, and preparing to get a job as a string teacher. Group discussions also include the future of String Projects and building a nationwide community of string teachers. Although many participants will be from String Project sites, it is relevant and open to all educators, administrators, and college students that are motivated to develop and ensure stringed instrument music making within your community.
