Recent disruptions to in-person instruction have created an opportunity for directors to reassess their educational philosophy. What role does the teacher play in fostering the powerful connections students form within the large ensemble? The spirit of collaboration and camaraderie, of belonging and contributing to a community, is a vital and irreplaceable aspect of corporate music making. The session will focus on the myriad factors that contribute to student engagement, including the director’s personal wellbeing and preparation, rehearsal strategies, choice of repertoire, class organization, and conducting technique.
