What is the Vocabulary of the Modern Conductor?

Author of A Dictionary for the Modern Conductor, Conductor and educator, Emily Freeman Brown, Professor of Creative Arts Excellence and Director of Orchestral Activities at Bowling Green State University, will address issues of the modern conductor be they in education, attached to professional ensembles, a student or an aspiring conductor who works mainly with recordings. The session will probe ways in which the life of the conductor has changed since the baton was first used to lead a group of musicians. In addition, programmatic, technological and other innovations in the field will be explored. The session will present an overview of key musical and translated foreign terms, biographies of major conductors, emphasizing their contributions to the profession, crucial information on major orchestras, key institutions and organizations, baton and rehearsal techniques, bowing terms, and much more.
